Literacy Teacher at Somerset Preparatory
As an avid lover of learning and personal connections, Ms. Carolyn Andrade is continuing her journey with Somerset Preparatory Academy Homestead as the Assistant Principal. Since birth, she has been a fireball of energy, laughter, and passion and is thrilled about the new and exciting possibilities that come with growing with a new school.
Ms. Andrade is a Musical Theater alum from New World School of the Arts High School and as such, looks forward to continuing her performances in the spirit filled student halls of S.P.A. Aside from being a proud Python, Ms. Andrade is also an FIU Panther as well as an FSU Seminole. Pursuing her love for students with special needs, drove Ms. Andrade to dedicate her studies in Special Education. She attended Florida International University where she earned her bachelor’s and master’s degree. During this time, Ms. Andrade spent some of her best summers working with UM-NSU Card’s Summer Camp for children with Autism. This place has a very special place in her heart for it allows her the opportunity to refill, reset, and reflect on what truly matters: the gift of each child and the unique magic they possess.
True to her Florida roots, Ms. Andrade then pursued her leadership journey and earned her Specialist degree from Florida State University. Ms. Andrade has been in the education field for over 14 years. She has taught in diverse settings and can easily accommodate to the needs of the students she is servicing. Her teaching experience began as an ESE English teacher at Miami Sunset Senior High where she taught for 3 years. She then taught Language Arts at Allapattah Middle School. Ms. Andrade then moved over to the charter community and was the English Department Chair at Doral Academy for 4 years. Her remaining years have been dedicated to the Somerset Academy Homestead community where she has been the ESOL and Gifted Coordinator, EESAC Chair, Activities Director, and Lead Teacher.
In 2018, the Greater Miami Youth Symphony and The Children’s Trust created a partnership with S.A.S.H. which offers 6th-12th grade students the opportunity to learn a band instrument in a free after-school program that takes place twice a week all year long. Ms. Andrade started this grant with Somerset Academy South Homestead and is thrilled to announce that Somerset Preparatory Academy students have now been granted the same opportunity! Ms. Andrade looks forward in building the performing arts program in S.P.A. and making it a staple for our community. Go Pythons!
