During our summer camps, we want to make sure that our students are moving their bodies as well as working out their minds. This is why the Greater Miami Youth Symphony is so excited to celebrate our 10 years of partnership with Fit Kids of America once again. They are a non-profit whose mission is to support the development of children who will become academically engaged, physically fit, socially adept, and culturally enriched and to mature into independent and successful citizens of the future.

This summer, our students will get hands on: from tie-dying our own shirts to making instruments, we’ll be embracing life to the fullest! Each camp will have field trip opportunities such as performances and workshops.

Colors of Culture:  (Beginner & Intermediate) – June 14th – July 23rd at Miami Christian School. 9 AM – 4 PM. Before and After care available.

Colors of Culture is our six-week intermediate camp. Here, we will focus on a new country each week. Students will learn about everything from rhythms, composers, types of music, dance, and history. Students will receive a well-rounded look at music, the world and their place in it. This camp is perfect for students grade K-12 who range in levels from beginner to intermediate.

Textures:  Intensive Camps for Jazz & Strings (Advanced) – June 21st – July 2nd at Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Miami. Jazz: 9 AM – 1 PM / Strings 12 PM – 4 PM

Texture, in music, is how the tempo, melodic, and harmonic materials are combined in a musical composition, determining the overall quality of the sound in a piece. In this two-week intensive camp, students will learn the many layers of musical skills that are needed to be a good musician from ensemble rehearsals to conducting to theory and improvisation. Auditions are required for this camp. Students grade 6-12 only.

Kaleidoscope:  (Beginner) – July 6th – July 30th St. Johns Episcopal Homestead. 9 AM – 1 PM. Before Care available.

Kaleidoscope is a camp especially designed for younger students (K-8). Students will learn how music reflects art in this hands-on beginner camp. This half day camp is the perfect length that will keep the children’s attention, but give them enough learning time to master the basics of any instrument. The goal of this camp is to prepare students to audition for our new season.
