Students wishing to participate in GMYS must be between ages 5 and 18 and play an orchestral instrument. Every student must complete an admission audition to be accepted, except for the Preparatory Classes, which is open to youth with no previous musical experience. Once accepted the student will be placed in one of the four orchestras or bands. This placement is based on playing ability and musical maturity as determined by the music staff.
Rehearsals
Most GMYS rehearsals occur every scheduled week on Sunday afternoons. Rehearsals are held at the safe and secure campus of Miami Dade College Kendall Campus and University of Miami Frost School of Music. Preparatory classes are held at different venues and times during the week.
Admissions
Prospective members need to attend an audition. This may be scheduled individually or during announced recruiting times. Bring your instrument and at least one prepared composition to perform. You may be asked to sight-read and play scales. Check the audition link for audition schedule.
