GMYS provides its members with the opportunity to participate in an annual competition:
Instrumental Concerto Competition
GMYS student members of good standing in the Concert and Symphony Orchestras are eligible to compete in the GMYS 2011-12 Instrumental Concerto Competition. Each applicant must have the approval and signature of their private or school music teacher and their GMYS conductor.

Concert Orchestra
The suggested concerto audition music for 2011-12 is:
Violin- Mvmt from Vivaldi Concerto in A minor
Viola- Mvmt from Teleman Concerto in G major
Cello- please see Director
Bass- please see Director
Symphony Orchestra
Students may choose any piece from the standard concerto repertoire with the approval of the Music Director. Pianists may also audition.
The Competition will take place in early spring (2012), and the winner will perform with the Concert and Symphony Orchestras in the May 2012 Season Finale Concert.
